Contouring

One of my all time favorite duos is the Smashbox Contouring palette and the Tarte sculpting contouring brush. The brush is very easy to handle, unlike other brushes, which can easily make a contouring mess-yikes, and it is also has a lot of control so your contour powder stays exactly where you intended to apply it. The palette is also very handy! It contains highlighter, bronzer and contouring powders, they also include a small guide on where to apply for beginners. If you were looking for a simple way to contour your face, nothing can beat this duo, and when paired together it can lead to a flawless look and an eye capturing contoured faced.

GlamGlow - YouthMud

While out getting a few Christmas presents, I treated myself to an array of new products to try. One of the items I bought was the GlamGlow Youth Mud Tingle Exfoliate Treatment. I had heard great things about this product and decided to give in to the hype and give it a try. It's a mud facial mask which is supposed to do wonders on your skin. I used it on my nose because that's where my blackheads mostly appear, and I honestly saw a massive improvement! It only took 10 minutes for this product to clean out a majority of my blackheads, tighten my skin, minimize my pores and make my skin irresistibly smooth. It even smells refreshing, unlike other products I have used, which remind me of a chemical mixture I created in high school -yikes! Given the option of buying this again, it's a definite yes. You can purchase this at most beauty stores, or buy it direct from the website. They also offer a variety of other types of  mud masks, such as PowerMud dual cleanse, SuperMud Clearing treatment, ThirstyMud Hydrating treatment and many others. It's worth the money and would even make a great Christmas gift/Stocking Stuffer!

Hands

I don't know about any of you guys, but I really like my hands to look nice. One thing that really irritates me is when my hands get super dry in the winter time-to the point that they begin to hurt. Many people have suggested their cures, and after taking into consideration all of their ideas, I put together my own hand survival kit. First things first, go and get your nails done. If you skip this step, you are missing out on the beginning of beautiful hands. Nothing elongates fingers better than a lovely manicure, and long nails. To solve the dry hand epidemic I use Eucerin Hand Creme plus Intensive Repair. You can buy it at most stores, and it is one of the best lotions I have ever used. I usually apply it liberally at night time, and then put on a pair of old gloves or mittens. When I wake up in the morning, I find that my hands are soft and hydrated. Sometimes when I'm feeling like my feet are getting dry also, I do the same thing, but apply socks-obviously. With beautiful nails and soft hands, who could resist your charm?

Lips

I personally believe that having strong lips can make you seem like you know what you're doing in life, or maybe that's just how I see it! The cupids bow, the pointed part on your upper lip, should be the strongest point of your lips, which means you're going to need to line your lips. I use MAC Soar lip pencil, it pretty much matches my lip color so it seems really natural. Choose a lip liner that's either very similar to your lip color or one that matches the lipstick you plan on using. Line your cupids bow, making sure to enhance the points. Then fill in with your matching lipstick. In my case it will be Brave by MAC, because it's a very similar color to the liner. However, if I was planning on wearing a red lipstick (MAC Red lipstick matched with MAC Trust in Red lip liner) then I would chose a color that matched that lipstick color, NOT a color that matches your lips. Remember not to go too far out of your natural lip line, or it will start to look like a toddler was attempting to help you with your makeup-not cute! Feel free to comment with any questions, or even email me directly, my email can be found at the bottom of the blog.

Eyebrows

It's been said that eyebrows to the ladies is like the frame of a master piece. You could have the most beautiful contouring techniques, and the best eyeshadow blending techniques, but if your eyebrows are not nicely filled in, what is the point? That would be like painting the Mona Lisa and putting it in a dollar tree frame, if you get what I'm saying! When filling in my eyebrows, I use ****** things. The Anastasia Beverly Hills Brow Wiz, Benefit Cosmetics Gimme Brow, my MAC #204, MAC #242, and Hard Candy Glamoflauge Heavy Duty Concealer. I start by shaping my eyebrows with my MAC #204, then I line the bottom of my brow with the Anastasia Brow Wiz. Once I have the bottom nicely shaped, I touch up any problem areas using long strokes with the Anastasia. Then re-shape with the MAC #204, and comb through the Benefit Gimme Brow. After you have everything filled in, the next step is concealing. Using my MAC #242 I cover my entire eyebrow area with Glamoflauge concealer* and blend it all. This definitely defines the brow area, and gives a sharp edge to them. So there you go ladies, it's as simple as that to frame your own 'Mona Lisa'!

*This concealer has the ability to cover up tattoos, hence the Heavy Duty. Use sparingly!

Lets Talk Brushes..

While everyone assumes that a basic brand of makeup brush usually applies makeup just as well as a name brand will, they’re wrong. I can’t even tell you how many times I’ve applied make up with a “dupe” brush and ended up with streaks and even the hairs from the brush on my face; It’s better just to go to MAC, Sephora, or even your local beauty retailer and purchase an expensive, sturdy set of makeup brushes. Recently I went out and bought a few more brushes for my ever growing collection, and fell in love with one of them. It was the Makeup Forever brush #108. It’s a large foundation brush (also good for tinted moisturizers) which will not leave behind streaks and brush hairs, but will leave your face looking flawless. I’ve moved it to my everyday brush selection because I love it that much.
Other makeup brushes I purchased that day include:
  • MAC #191 – Square Foundation Brush
  • MAC #239 – Eye Shading Brush
  • MAC #187 – Face Brush
  • MAC #263 – Small Angle Brush
  • MAC #168 – Large Angled Contour Brush
  • MAC #150 – Large Powder Brush
  • MAC #204 – Lash Brush
  • MAC #215 – Medium Shader Brush
  • MAC #212 – Flat Definer Brush
  • MAC #224 – Tapered Blending Brush
  • MAC #287 – Eye Shadow Brush
The brush adventures will not stop here for me; I’m obsessed with makeup brushes, and cannot resist trying out and buying new brushes. One of my favorite ways to test out brushes is to go to Sephora and get a 15 minute mini makeover. While the artist applies makeup I always ask which brushes they’re using, and then purchase them after if I really like the feel of them and the way it applies makeup to the skin.

Liquid Eyeliner

Something that I always had problems with was putting eyeliner across my upper lash line without getting it everywhere. Of course, that was when I was around 14 and thought that I was just terrible at applying make up. Well my friends, I was wrong! The problem did not lie with me, it was the brand of eyeliner I was using. All of this changed however, when a good friend told me about Maybelline Line Stiletto liquid eyeliner. That was the exact moment that my life changed. I went out and purchased it as soon as I could, and found out that applying liquid eyeliner was not as difficult as I had been making it! This eyeliner features a felt tip which allows you to glide the liquid on smoothly while remaining in control the whole time. Plus, the liquid stays where you planned on leaving it, with almost no drying time. It then proceeds to stay in this exact position for a strong majority of the day. I would honestly recommend this product to anyone who is struggling with applying their liquid eyeliner, and even to those who are not, because if applying eyeliner can be this easy, then everyone needs to be doing it!
